First Lie Wins

by Ashley Elston

This is a tough one to write about because I can’t say much about what happens in the book without spoiling things. This book has so many twists and turns, I was getting dizzy. I was sure I knew the ending of the book about six different times, and I. Did. Not.

Evie Porter and Ryan Sumner are speeding toward serious and they seem like a great couple, if not for some trust issues that both clearly have. The book almost immediately lets you know that there’s something shady going on with both characters and from there, it’s a rollercoaster ride. It’s an easy read because it switches timelines and the chapters aren’t terribly long. Elston gives good detail about where our leading lady came from and how she got to where we’re meeting her. When we find out that Evie has been framed for murder by her mysterious boss, Mr. Smith, things really take off. I’ll let you read the book to find out the rest.

I read this book in one evening. I couldn’t put it down. Guys, I even ignored my dogs for this book. My doodle and golden were begging for pets but I couldn’t be bothered. (Don’t come for me, they’re the most spoiled dogs ever!)

Go away, I can’t be bothered.

Also, thanks to Reese’s Book Club for existing! Yes, I am that basic chick who reads a lot of Reese’s Book Club recommendations. C’mon! They’re almost always awesome books and right up my alley! But I digress. Let’s get to the pros and cons.

Pros: Stumped me until the end! Interesting story that kept me hooked.

Con: Some of the circumstances of how our lead character got to where she is sounds far-fetched and a little unrealistic. But hey, it’s fiction.

That’s all I can think of for a con, so I’m going to stop there. If you like fast-paced, easy reads that keep you on your toes, I highly recommend First Lie Wins. This would be a great Lake day read, or a trip up to the mountains, because it’s easy and quick.

Overall Rating: 9/10 ignored doggos.
