The Teacher

By Freida McFadden

I have become a HUGE fan of Freida McFadden’s books in the last month. I have read The Housemaid, The Housemaid’s Secret, The Teacher, Ward D, and The Coworker within the last month. I would highly recommend all those books (except Ward D – didn’t have that amazing twist ending that she usually gives).

Freida’s books are so fun to read because they’re easy, fast-paced, and really grab you. (I feel like “easy, fast-paced read” is starting to be my catch phrase.) But this weekend, I read three of her books, all within about 24 hours. It took me about 3-4 hours to read each book, but I couldn’t put them down and I just LOVE her twist-endings.

The Teacher begins with a married couple, Nate and Eve, who are both teachers at a high school. Nate is handsome and adored by students and staff. Eve is mousy, strict, and serious. Then we meet Addie, a young, quiet student who was involved in the firing of a teacher the previous year. Eve is wary of Addie because the teacher that was fired, was her mentor. She doesn’t quite trust or like the girl, even though she doesn’t know her. Eve runs into her old mentor, who warns her to stay away from Addie, that there’s something wrong with her.

Nate, however, takes a shine to Addie because of her brilliant poetry, and they spend more time together as he encourages her and mentors her writing skills. You might think you know what’s going to happen from here, and you’re right. The content gets…uncomfortable.

Ew.

After some spine tingling creepiness is over, it gets overwhelmingly frustrating because this girl has been groomed and therefore, brainwashed. I will stop there, don’t want to ruin it for you, but do read it. It was very good, and had that twist that had me *gasp!* at the end. I basically held my husband hostage for ten minutes the next morning while filling him in on the entirety of the book because I was so impressed by the twisty end.

“Wow, no way. Sounds crazy.”

Pros and Cons!!

Pro: Say it with me! Fast-paced, easy read! Kept me hooked until the very end!

Cons: Some uncomfortable content. Made me a feel weird reading it at parts.

Overall Rating: 8/10 Bored Husbands.
